Thandi is “inspired by the work of Ren Hang and his natural, flash, nude photography with strange and peculiar objects that create subjective meaning to the viewer. This is a partial tribute to his work and how he has inspired me as an Asian photographer. I love flash photography and abstract and somewhat peculiar images that make the viewer question the meaning of the piece and perhaps in some way it is empowering and through that meaning there is relatability. I’m also always about the female gaze in the empowering sense, womxn shooting womxn, not men shooting nudes of womxn. I want to uplift and show the gentle strength and compassion that womxn hold. It’s beautiful and it’s often overlooked.
